THE SEASON 1999/2000
LEESIDE AFC SECRETERYS REPORT 1999 / 2000
It is with great pleasure I submit to ou my report on the activities
and operation of your
club for the past year. we had five teams between schoolboys and aul they
were u 13
schoolboys league u 17and u 18 aul and two junior teams .in the aul lb and
premier
leagues. the u 13 team managed by bill cogan and working from a small
panel did well to
finish where they did in the league . The u 17 team managed by Jimmy o
sullivan had a very successful year winning the league cup and finishing
well in the league. well done to Jimmy barr. The u 18 team managed
by kieran horgan and John gettings were playing in the premier
division and finished in the top half and also reached the semi-final of
the murphys youth cup. The league I b team managed for the first time by
Ger Delea finished a credible third in the league and were it not for a
spate of injurys at a critical time would have finished higher.
John shine took over as manager of the premier team at the start of the
year and was an
instant success while it was disappointing to go out in the first round of
the fai and
munster junior cups we made up for it by reaching the finals of the A.O.H
andMossy -Linnane
cups in the AOH we were beaten I nil by Barney after a replay but we
gained revenge by
winning the mossy -linnane I nil against the same opposition. after
leading the league for
most of the season it was very disappointing to be caught in the last game
of the season
but I am confident that if we can keep this panel together and add to IT
more success will
follow.

It was a great honour for the club to have
three of our players Frank Walsh,Conor O
Leary and David Welch selected to play on the aul inter league team and
David Welch has
brought further honour to the club by winning the golden boot award with
twenty three
league goals.

The premier team also won the team of the month award
for april. the under
age section is now up and running and are gearing up to enter two teams in
the schoolboys
league next year. as part of their preparation they travelled to tralee to
play some games and
have recently returned from a successful trip to wales, from a playing
point of view the club
is in a very healthy state.
Since the last agm we have developed a floodlit training area this
has taken the pressure off the
main pitch and has seen an upturn in the numbers training .This Is part of
our on going
efforts to improve and increase our facilitys. the club desperately needs
more land the
committee are following a couple of lines of inquiry but at the moment It
is too early to say
if anything will come of it. During the course of the season we had
a lot of players injured
playing matches. thankfully none of them were serious but It brought home
to me the
importance of having adequate insurance cover, up until now the club has
operated a policy
of paying medical expenses (within reason ) but we are not in a position
to compensate for
loss of earnings, this is clearly unsatisfactory for both parties. From the
clubs point of view
we will have six possibly seven teams next year and we cannot afford the
level of
expenditure that we had last year on medical expense from a players point
of view no one
can afford the loss of a few weeks wages if they are unfortunate to get
injured. The committee are
putting forward a proposal on insurance at today's agm and I urge everyone
to
give it serious consideration. .
On behalf of the committee I would like to thank the various managers of
our teams for the
time and efforts they put in for the past season they have given the club
a higher profile
within the league .1 thank all those who continue to sell lotto tickets
for us as this pays for
the day to day running of the club and basically the more money we have
the more we can
provide. I thank our major sponsorsHarbour Point Golf complex for their
generous
sponsorship of the club for the last number of years and look forward to a
continuing
arrangement. I thank all those who have supported our teams during
the
season and I thank all my fellow directors for their help and co
-operation during the year
and look forward to working with you again next year.
